Time for a Plot Pit-stop Analysis!

We’ve finally arrived at the plot station, where my group continues to analyze the plot of a sports drama movie, while applying certain attributes to our own plan for developing our own film opening. Referring back to “The Cutting Edge: Going for Gold,” the plot follows the story of the main character and athlete Jackie Dorsey after she must change her plan to become an ice skating Olympic competitor/winner after getting injured. She must find a partner to skate with, so once she comes across Alex Harrison, a pro-skater, but not on the ice rink, the pair must train and learn to compete together and well at that. Throughout the entire plot of the movie, the pair have major successes, losses, upbeat moments, moments they cannot stand each other and more; however, all of the plot and character emotions revolve around the sport, which is a key element to developing the plot of the film.

Although we aren’t 100% certain what our plot will be for our film yet since we are still in the early planning phases, we know we want to base it on something similar or of a similar trope respective to the sports drama genre. For example, although it is not the exact storyline described before, we were thinking of something along the lines of persevering past discouragement like disapproving parents and being told you won’t make it in that path of the sport our main athlete and character will play, such as soccer. My group and I think this would work because it sticks to the idea of a major dramatic conflict relating to the sport, and even incorporating some more lighthearted moments to entertain the audience and portray some comedic elements, pushing the element of plot even closer toward our token anticipated genre. That’s where the storyline ends for this chapter of our journey, but stay tuned because our final overarching planning stop is “technically” our biggest one yet and it’s targeted right at you!
